The Onslow County Commissioners have adopted a new ordinance they hope will prevent drownings and injuries.

According to the safe kids coalition, drowning is the number 2 accidental injury related killer of children ages one to 14 across the U.S.

Starting next November, any outdoor swimming pool, above or in the ground, that contains more than 2 feet of water, must be contained within a fence, or a solid wall that's 4 feet tall.

All fences must have a latch or lock.

Spas and hot tubs must be locked with a safety cover.
