Key Biscayne Pool - Required Maintenance vs. VGB
I posted a story today showing a report of their findings in the most recent incident involving a child being trapped by a drain. If you read it, it says the pool was using VGB compliant drain covers for its two main drains but that a vacumm hose on the side of the pool had been left uncovered and there were several other broken drain covers in the pool as well.
This is the most frustrating part of our mission. You cannot legislate stupidity. As much as the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act(federal law) was a good step in the right direction and the Abigail Taylor Pool Safety Act (Minnesota State Law) is a great second step holding people accountable for maintaining their pools and drains through required daily inspections by an onsite Certified Pool Operator, neither can stop these idiots from allowing their pools to fall in disrepair and not take the responsibility to close them when they are not safe.
Go check out the article and see all the pictures and you will wonder how many pools around the country are just like this one and how many times have your kids been swimming in one of them.

These types of injuries can be prevented. Pools are very fun and a daily part of many peoples lives, including ours but people have got to start understanding how dangerous they can be if poorly maintained.
